Publishers and Authors Invited to Donate Titles

to Empowerment Fund for Iraqi Women and Children

April 28, 2003 (Beverly Hills, CA)— Publishers, authors and related professionals are invited to make a difference in the lives of the Iraqi women and children who have become homeless and left without a father, husband or a son. Passions & Dreams Funding, Inc. announces an Empowerment Fund to directly assist the Iraqi women. Publishers and authors are invited to donate books to this fund. Of particular interest are English-language books on women’s empowerment, children’s, and career development books. Damaged or overstocked titles are welcome.

Silva Mirzoian, CEO of Passions & Dreams Funding, was born and raised in Baghdad. She is the author of the Jump Start Your Life series of books, which were launched in the Fall of 2002, and the host of a popular cable television show in Los Angeles. Ms. Mirzoian moved to Beverly Hills in the 1980’s, quickly began acquiring and selling real estate, and founded the Beverly Hills-based full service real estate company MIRZO International, Inc. Her achievements have earned her the Advocate Businesswoman of the Year Award from the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce and a listing in the World Who’s Who of Women.

Silva is a walking testament to how discovering and believing in your unique passions and dreams can empower you to have the deeply rewarding life you were meant to live. In 1998, she established Passions & Dreams Funding, Inc., whose mission is to empower as many women as possible by raising funds through public and corporate donations, and by providing empowerment workshops and business start-up funds up to $25,000 for a three-year period at low interest rates.

Silva explains, “My passion is to eliminate abuse and violence against women and to liberate through education and empowerment. I believe that self-sufficiency is created by achieving personal and professional independence. When the people of a nation have been suppressed emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually for over twenty years it will be quite a challenge for them to unveil their inner resources to help rebuild their nation. The Empowerment Fund will allow for Iraqi women to develop self-reliance from a sense of personal pride and dignity.”

Given her unique background as an author combined with her cultural heritage, Silva is a natural choice to deliver the message of empowerment and books to the women of Iraq. Silva is traveling to Baghdad in July, when she will personally deliver these books directly to Iraqi women as part of the rebuilding and empowerment effort in that country. Her trip will be videotaped in documentary format to record the disbursement of books and funds to the Iraqi women. Silva will return one year later to interview the same women about how the donations have improved their quality of life.

Ms. Mirzoian has forged a partnership with the Iraqi Women Organization to spearhead this effort. Her effort has received publicity coverage from top national media, and she hopes to generate additional interest from publishers of women’s empowerment and career books nationwide. Donations are tax deductible.

Book donations should be sent to the Empowerment Fund Warehouse, whose address will be provided immediately to those who inquire.
